PhD Positions Available
1. Dr Katarina Oravcova has a project available through the NorthWest Biosciences Doctoral Training Programme.
The project, which is a collaboration between University of Glasgow and Strathclyde, is looking at innovative strategies to treat bovine mastitis by investigating the design and mode of action of minor groove binders.

2. Dr Michael Ormsby has a PhD project available through the IAPETUS doctoral training partnership.
The project represents an exciting collaboration between the University of Glasgow, the University of Stirling, and the Royal Zoological Society Scotland (RZSS), and will involve identifying reservoirs of bacterial pathogens in animal enclosures. The project will also consider how climate change may impact bacterial persistence, virulence and evolution.

Masters Success
Congratulations to Eugene Lau, who successfully completed his MSc(R) in October, 2025. His thesis, entitled "Laboratory approaches for expanding the understanding of an emerging strain of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae in the Arctic”, was supervised by Dr Taya Forde and Dr Katarina Oravcova. The external examiner was Dr Peter Coote from the University of St Andrews, and the internal examiner was Dr Michael Ormsby. Many thanks to Dr Davina Hill for acting as convenor.

Summer Bustle of Activity
This summer, 2025, we were delighted to be hosting 6 of this year's cohort of EIDAR Masters students, 2 visiting undergraduate students from University of Dallas, Texas, and an undergraduate Veterinary Biosciences student in the OHRBID lab.
Lots of fun had by all!
